Windy Wonders with Diane Harris, the Stash Bandit

From one humble block comes this parade of unique quilt designs. Diane started making Baby Windmills years ago and soon realized how many things she could do with them. She's on a lifelong quest to make every such quilt that lives in her head.

Windy Wonders touches on the concepts of value, scale, color and creativity. See how one simple idea can take root, grow, morph and reproduce in exciting ways. Most of the quilts are scrappy, so there will be plenty of ideas from the Stash Bandit for letting the fabric do the work.

Diane Harris is a quilt designer, speaker and teacher. After 11 years as an editor for Quiltmaker magazine, she formed Stash Bandit, through which she presents energetic trunk shows and engaging classes for quilters. She is passionate about making scrap quilts and creating interesting original designs. She never met a fabric she didn't like, and her work is regularly featured in national publications.

Diane lives on a working farm in rural Nebraska.

Your project can be totally scrappy or controlled scrappy but it needs to include many different fabrics. You can make a "kitchen sink" quilt and use everything, or you can decide on a color recipe. You can wait and decide this in class.

Have about a dozen fat quarters in lights, mediums and darks, or press your biggest scraps so they're ready to use. IMPORTANT: The MINIMUM useful size for class is 2.5" x 6".
