President's Block Challenge - November 2021

November 02, 2021 4:36 PM | Lynn Roginski

Each month of this year I will be introducing a new block.  You may take this as an opportunity to build your own skills.  Additionally, I encourage you to post your block creations either on our ACQ Community Facebook page or on Instagram using #ACQPresidentBlock2021.  Each block you post will be entered into a monthly drawing for a fat quarter bundle.  If you aren’t on social media – no problem, just send me an email with your photo (pond.jennifer@comcast.net).  We will draw the winner at the next guild meeting, and you don’t need to be present to win (although we hope you will because we have a great line-up this year!).  The winner of October’s block will be announced at the November meeting, and the November block at the December meeting.

This month’s blocks is the Wild Goose Chase.  A little history on the block: Nature was an obvious and rich source for quilt patterns. Many patterns are named for trees, flowers, animals and birds. The homesteaders watched the migration of flocks of geese and created quilts with that in mind. Although the triangle is used in hundreds of other quilt designs, in this block, triangles represent the geese. Pioneer women expressed their artistic abilities and creativity in the way they arranged the triangles or geese, and in the colors they used. That may be one reason why the Wild Goose Chase pattern has at least 14 variations.

Instructions for this month’s block may be downloaded from https://www.fatquartershop.com/wild-goose-chase-quilt-block-free-pattern
