2022 "3 in 1" Quilt Challenge

February 01, 2022 6:09 AM | Lynn Roginski

Here is an opportunity to challenge yourself and be creative! For your $5 sign up fee, you will receive three fabrics which must be used significantly, (so we can recognize them) in the wall hanging. Otherwise, you can create any type of project you wish. Last day to sign up for the Challenge is April 1 or when all kits have been purchased. For $6 you can have the fabrics mailed to you, pick them up at the next Pop Up Social or arrange with Barb Pond for pickup.

Requirements:

  1. Maximum size of the wall hanging must be no larger than a 20” x 20” square.
  2. Project must be completed with quilting and binding.
  3. Wall hanging must have some form of sleeve so it can be hung.
  4. Project MUST include all three fabrics in the composition. We need to see enough of each fabric so the three fabrics can be easily identified.
  5. Write a short artistic statement to accompany your piece. Give a brief overview (2-4 sentences) to explain your interpretation and why you chose this subject matter.
  6. All entrants must send a maximum of 3 pictures of their project to Deb Roth (bdablroth@gmail.com) by May 1, 2022 so they can be uploaded to Wild Apricot. Otherwise, your project may not be included in the judging.
    • Suggestions for great photos-----
      • Image 1 should show the entire quilt piece and image 2 and 3 can be close-ups—they need to be sent as a JPEG or PNG.
      • Images must be high quality and clear.
      • Shoot the image straight-on, not from an angle that will distort the shape.
      • Do not include extra background.
      • Make sure the lighting is good—take the photo outside on a cloudy day if possible. Adding light from the side can accentuate quilt stitching.
  7. All entries will be judged at the May Guild Meeting. If we cannot meet in person to judge, voting will take place during the May meeting on zoom.
  8. In case we can meet in person, write your name on the back of the project. Also include your address, email, or phone number. If we do not meet in person, we will display the entries at the next in-person event.
