Meet Mimi Hollenbaugh and Pat Syta – owners of Bound To Be Quilting, a company they started in 2016.

Mimi Hollenbaugh started quilting in 1983, and since then has almost never been without a project (or two or three) on the go.  Her first love is applique, but she finds that she is drawn to many forms of quilting and needlework.  She enjoys traveling with her Mom to needlework classes all over the country.  Although Colorado became home in 1993, she and her family found themselves taking advantage of an opportunity to live and work in England for 2 years in 2002.  That opportunity lasted for almost 10 years(!) but in 2011 they returned to Colorado.  While in the UK, besides working and teaching at Puddleduck’s Quilt Shop, Mimi designed many quilts that were featured in British Patchwork and Quilting Fabrications magazines.  Additionally, she co-authored and published a book of children's quilts in the UK entitled Good Night Sleep Tight.

Pat Syta started sewing when she was 12 years old. In 1991, she began quilting when a friend she worked with talked her into taking her first quilting class. Pat was to make an 8-block sampler, but 8 blocks were not enough of a challenge, so Pat made an 18-block queen sized quilt, which she still sleeps under.  The quilt bug hit hard. Two years after her first class, Pat began teaching at a local shop in Anchorage, Alaska.  Teaching beginners is her specialty, but she loves travelling, teaching to all levels of students and taking challenging classes herself.  Pat promptly became active in 3 guilds when moving to Colorado.  Along with some friends, Pat started Parker Piecekeepers Quilt Guild in Parker, became Director of Quilt Colorado in 2012, and was Program Chair and President of Arapahoe County Quilters. Pat has authored 2 books:  Bear’s Paw Plus, published by Martingale, and Red at Night under her Piece by Piece Memories company.

Mimi and Pat are designers for Banyan Batiks.  Their latest line is called Stargazer and is available for pre-orders with shipping expected this Fall.  Be sure to check it out at www.banyanbatiks.com.  Mimi and Pat have numerous patterns and BOMs.  Their newest BOM offering is Solare BOM which will be coming to stores in November.  (https://northcott.com/product-detail.aspx?nme=April%202022%20Release%20Banyan%20Batiks&fbid=139&colid=2920&colorid=3925)  You can see their amazing patterns and BOMs and find more information about Bound To Be Quilting at: https://bound-to-be-quilting.myshopify.com/.

Mimi and Pat – thank you for contributions to the quilting community and your support of Arapahoe County Quilters.
