The Spoolin' Around Bee meets on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-9 PM at Wooden Spools Quilt Shop in Englewood (2805 S. Broadway). We are a fairly new bee. A few months ago when we began to meet again, we merged the Spoolin' Around bee with the QuiltersDEN bee. We are very casual; everyone works on their own projects, we all share our "show and tells" and we support each other in our quilting projects. Some people bring hand projects to work on like wool applique, bindings, or EPP, some people like to take advantage of the large cutting tables in the classroom to cut out projects, and some people like to bring their machines and sew for a few hours-- really, anything goes. Right now the bee is open to anyone who would like to attend. Want more information? Contact Rachael Lambrecht Submitted by Rachael Lambrecht

Each month of this year I will be introducing a new block. You may take this as an opportunity to build your own skills. Additionally, I encourage you to post your block creations either on our ACQ Community Facebook page or on Instagram using #ACQPresidentBlock2021. Each block you post will be entered into a monthly drawing for a fat quarter bundle. If you aren’t on social media – no problem, just send me an email with your photo (pond.jennifer@comcast.net). We will draw the winner at the next guild meeting, and you don’t need to be present to win (although we hope you will because we have a great line-up this year!). The winner of October’s block will be announced at the November meeting, and the November block at the December meeting.
This month’s blocks is the Wild Goose Chase. A little history on the block: Nature was an obvious and rich source for quilt patterns. Many patterns are named for trees, flowers, animals and birds. The homesteaders watched the migration of flocks of geese and created quilts with that in mind. Although the triangle is used in hundreds of other quilt designs, in this block, triangles represent the geese. Pioneer women expressed their artistic abilities and creativity in the way they arranged the triangles or geese, and in the colors they used. That may be one reason why the Wild Goose Chase pattern has at least 14 variations.
Instructions for this month’s block may be downloaded from https://www.fatquartershop.com/wild-goose-chase-quilt-block-free-pattern
The month of November is typically a month where we reflect on the blessings we have in our lives. In our house, we each share one thing we are thankful for each day at dinner. It’s a great way to be reflective and focus on gratitude. So, what are you thankful for?
This year I am thankful for all of our members who have stepped up to help in keeping our guild moving forward. A year ago, we were hoping to be back to “normal” meetings – yet, we have hung in there continuing the online format in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. We have also expanded into opportunities to meet as small groups: including a guild visit to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, book fair and drive thru/drop off events. We have led two successful online auctions to support our charitable quilts – all thanks to the generous donors and bidders.
As we look forward to 2022, we have some amazing things to look forward to – and be thankful for. We have an opportunity for guild members to register for a workshop bundle (either 5 or 9) at a significant discount. This will lock in your spot for our limited space workshops. We also have the Festival of Quilts, postponed from this year, which will feature a celebration of quilting by our guild members. We are also planning an exciting virtual retreat coming in February! Stay tuned for updates.
And a special thank you to all the volunteers who are making these awesome events happen!
What does the White Rabbit and fall have in common?
Both are late this year…as is this message. Although COVID afforded time to enjoy hobbies and open schedules, it seems that things are starting to get back to normal, and for me normal means super busy. Helping to get the guild ready for another outstanding year, planning for activities and making sure we have a fabulous Fall Auction, time got away from me this month.
Speaking of the upcoming year, our Program Director for 21/22 has been putting out teasers on the 2021 program line up. This year we are going to do something a bit different, and allow for you to fill up your schedule in advance by purchasing a program plan. More information is shared in a separate article and at the next guild meeting on this opportunity – and because workshop spaces are limited, this is a great way to make sure that you are registered for all the classes you want!
To round out this year, we have several great speakers coming up – and a special treat coming in December (fingers crossed, we can meet in person) which will help set us up for next year.
With all the excitement, we are always looking for volunteers to help lighten the work. If you have skills in marketing, note taking, or want to help out with short term opportunities – there is room for you! The best way to let us know what your passion is in making the most of your Guild membership is to update your member profile to include your ACQ Service Interests. You’ll find your profile and a button to edit it by clicking on the “blue person button” in the upper right corner of the green ACQ banner at the very top of every website page and select View Profile. (Oh my, I’m glad we have more techie people than me in this guild!) Contact VP Membership Deb Roth if you need more help with this.

(Note from Newsletter Editor: Boy did I mess up not copying the September block instructions into the September newsletter article! If you made the September block you are a Block Star!!!)
The October block is the Bento Block brought to you by The Spruce Crafts. You can use precuts or yardage for the pattern depending on what you prefer and the look you want. Try it with scraps for a real challenge using the color and value tips you learned from Diane Harris at our August meeting. You’ll find the pattern and instructions here. Have fun with this block. Can’t wait to see what you do.
After a resounding success of the Spring Online Auction 2021, the Fall Online Auction 2021 is on its way! The Fall Auction includes fall and holiday items including quilts of many sizes, table runners and toppers, handmade bags, a bag class and Collectors Editions of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazine. All of the beautiful items are donated by members like you knowing that they will bring delight to their new owners; only one of the reasons we practice this art.
Photos and descriptions of items will be posted in advance on October 14 to 16 with the auction going live October 17 to 24. Help us spread the word about this event to your friends near and far using your personal social media accounts.
Here is a sampling of the items that have been donated.
Excellent News!. The Stitchin’ in Aurora Bee delivered numerous quilts to Clermont Commons. Please see the amazing pictures. Thank you so much to the Stitchin’ in Aurora Bee and ACQ members who made these wonderful quilts. The photos also answer the question, “What kind of quilts does ACQ donate?” These are only examples as not all of our donations go to veteran’s causes. You can see other examples by coming to the next Drive Thru scheduled for October 30, 2021. We are getting ready with more kits for you piecers and more quilt sandwiches for quilting or binding.
Be sure to join us for the October Guild meeting for a short presentation by Dorotha Cicchinelli with the Colorado Pregnancy & Newborn Loss Services (CPNLS). It is sure to be informative.
If you have any ideas, suggestions or questions about Charity activities in ACQ, please do not hesitate to email me.

This year, ACQ is offering two Workshop Package Bundles so that members will have the opportunity to enjoy more workshops at a discounted price! You will have the choice of selecting one of two different packages. Each of these packages offer great savings and allow you to get more "bang" for your buck.
WORKSHOP BUNDLE- 5 - This package will allow members to take 5 workshops for $200.00 instead of the individual cost of $250.00. This is a savings to you of $10.00 per workshop, or $50.00 total. Think of it as paying for 4 workshops.... with the 5th one at no cost to you!!
Note: The Tuffet Workshop in June will require using 2 of your 5 credits to be applied to this workshop since it is a Special Event that is being offered at a slightly higher cost than our regular Early Bird pricing. You have the choice of either applying your 5th credit to this workshop, taking 5 different classes, or taking 5 different classes and paying full price for the Tuffet Workshop. The choice is up to you.
WORKSHOP BUNDLE - 9 - This package allows members to take ALL 9 workshops at a much deeper discount, and the Tuffet Class is included as 1 of your classes! Members will pay $420.00 for this package instead of $490.00....a savings to you of $70.00!!
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
Please note - These packages are optional. ACQ members may still sign-up individually for any classes that they wish to take; however, you will not be receiving any class savings other than the Early Bird Discount.
Should you have any questions, please contact your VP Programs 2022, Kathy Wasilewski.
We did not meet during COVID except via Zoom meetings. We are just now starting to meet in person again. We meet the first Tuesday of the month in the evening. We bring show n tell and talk about new things we’re working on. We like to have a specific topic for each meeting and we have had many group projects throughout the years. We have one sew day per year and we often work on charity quilts during that time. We’re always looking for new inspiration and we love learning new techniques.
