We had a wonderful Community Sew Day August 16th and have another one scheduled for Sunday September 27, 2020 11:30 am to 3:30 pm.   Please join us to share stories and your love of quilting.

Our “Drive-Thru” was very successful and I look forward to seeing you at the next one on Saturday September 26, 2020 10 am to noon.  I am impressed that so many of our ACQ members also meet up at the Ace Hardware store on Colorado Blvd /Yale and our houses.

In preparation for our next “Drive-Thru” if you are looking for something specific to do please let me know by email. This was part of the success of the first “Drive-Thru” and we can keep it going for September.  It was fun to hear from our wonderful fellow ACQ members by email or phone with specific requests such as 4 quilts to bind, 2 kits to piece, or 3 quilts to quilt. Of course I will have options ready for you to look through and pick what works for you. 

I would like to thank the members who did help with Charity Quilts this month: Sue, Mary, Barb, Jen, Beth, Peggy, Terry, Joan, Barb, Linda, Kathy, Carla, Lynn, Candy, Anne, Nathlia, Jan, Carole and Quilters DENver Bee.

I am pleased to report that more quilts were donated to the Irving Street Women’s Residence.

Join our dynamic board that gets meaningful things done—and has fun at the same time! Officer elections will be held at the September meeting.

Volunteer-Driven
We are an organization that is a success because of our volunteers. If there are no volunteers then our guild will not continue to thrive in the future.

Many of you have volunteered during your earlier years of membership and we appreciate that. Now is the time for those of who haven't been able to help out in the past to see if you can fit in stepping up and helping out the guild at this time in your life. Or perhaps you're ready to come back to a new role or serve again.

The Process
Last year we updated our bylaws so that next year's slate is submitted at the August board meeting, published in the September newsletter, and voted on at the September meeting. This gives incoming board members time for training before assuming their duties in January. For more details, see Article VII in the bylaws, available from a link on the Members-Only page (password required).

Critical Vacancies on the Ballot
That time is just a few short weeks away and we still need two people to serve in the following positions:

We are looking for someone to run for Vice President of Programs 2022 and Vice President of Membership 2022. This is a two year commitment, supporting 2021 programs/membership and chairing 2022 programs/membership. 

Please think about helping out and, if you have any questions, please let Terry Chase know.

The raffle quilt is hanging up at Wooden Spools with high hopes of selling some tickets!  For those who frequent this shop, you can always buy more tickets here. 

There will also be more tickets available at our drive through event on Saturday, September 26th, 2020 from 10 am to noon. You can also drop off cash or checks and your stubs on that day for the earlier ticket mailing to members. Pick more up to sell to your family and friends!  The odds are "ever in your favor" this year since there have been no events to sell tickets at.  I am still hoping for the Sewing and Craft Festival at the end of October and the Holiday Market at the Western Stock Show in November.  Fingers crossed!!!!

Thank you to everyone who dropped off CPNLS quilts and picked up kits at our July 28th drive through event.  We received 14 quilts and passed out 40 kits for this program.  It was good to see your faces!

We will be collecting and passing out kits again at the September 26th drive through event.  Please bring your finished quilts and pick up a new kit if you need one.

Happy August ACQ members,

I hope we see you on Zoom for our next meeting. You will love our next speaker who is a Star in the local quilting community: Kate Colleran! 

I’m sure that our members are limiting contact with outsiders and wearing your mask if you venture out. If anyone is in need, please let me or someone on the Board know so we can rally and help you out. 2020 has come in with way too many surprises.  

Your Board is trying to keep you all engaged and coming to our virtual meetings. I hope if you are busy on that Thursday that you still access the recording on ACQ from the Members Only page and catch up. If you haven't attended a Zoom meeting yet and have any questions about how it works, or if you need help with your ACQ password please reach out to Jen Dietz or Deb Roth our Membership VPs.

I understand that Nancy and the Crew gave a wonderful presentation in July. These online meetings take a lot of preparation and practice before the big night. You have a wonderful ACQ Crew that has paved the way and is exchanging ideas with other guilds around the US.  We now have several members from out of state that attend our online meetings.  

I have heard from several of you that you enjoy the breakout rooms during the meetings. You are getting to know more members and meet new quilters in smaller groups. They have said that by not sitting with their normal companions at the meetings, they have had the opportunity to really meet new members. If you have any suggestions or thoughts of how to improve our online presence, please pass your comments on to the Board.

There has been a suggestion to have a virtual quilting retreat. The Board and Committee members discussed this at the last meeting and seem to agree. We should have plans for something soon.

The Charity Sews are going so well, that we will probably continue them when the all clear is sounded. I love all the discussions and fun we have. And I didn’t have to pack up my sewing room and still forget something. Just remember that it is come and go, you come in when you want and stay as long as you like.

The Board and Committees are interested in your comments and feedback. So please let us know what we can do to improve your ACQ experience.

Please, be safe all of you, we are all in this together. Call me if you need help because ACQ is a family and we are all helping others when we can.

News from the Library Corner

If you are like me you may have spent our “Safer at Home” time cleaning and organizing your sewing room. My sewing room has never been cleaner and it now really is my happy place.  As part of my cleaning I sorted through all of my sewing books and set aside a pile for ACQ’s book fair.  We are still planning on how to do the book fair virtually, but we are happy to accept any book donations.  Thank you to those who dropped off book at ACQ’s “One Stop Shop” on July 28.  If you weren’t able to participate on the 28^th and still have books you would like to donate, please contact Ann Roman at  annroman8858@icloud.com or Mary Rogers at mary.c.rogers@outlook.com to make arrangements to donate.

Thanks to Jan W. for suggesting Irving Street Women’s Residence as place to donate our charity quilts. I knew the quilts would be appreciated when I saw Manager Courtney Fischer’s face light up as we moved 18 quilts from a large suitcase to the table in the entry way. I think I heard residents “ooohh and ahhhh.” 

We had a wonderful Community Sew Day July 12^th  with nearly 20 people zooming in for all or part of the day.

Charitable Quilts Committee

Thanks to everyone for showing up at the drive-through event on Tuesday, July 28th!  It was wonderful to see people's masked faces and I know that charity quilts, CPNLS, and the librarians were pleased with their collections.  I collected lots of raffle tickets and handed out many.  The bin is still barely full so there are many chances available to win our lovely quilt.  

On Wednesday, July 22nd, I mailed raffle tickets to everyone who had not picked up tickets at the February meeting or written in since to get tickets.  As of the drive through event on the 28th, no one had received the tickets which was very, very disappointing.  Not to fret!  We will be having another drive through event in September but on a Saturday this time.  We just need to arrange a time and date with the church.

It has been difficult to sell raffle tickets this year though I have high hopes for the quilt shop hop in August and the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival at the end of October.  I will be setting up a schedule for volunteers for the quilt shop hop (Saturdays only) which will be happening through the month of August.  

For anyone who wants to purchase raffle tickets, please send a check, a stamped self addressed envelope, self-stick return mailing labels, your email and phone number.

Hello Members,

I hope you get to enjoy the 4^th of July with a few friends and family with social distancing to stay safe.  As I write this in June, Covid cases are on the rise again with the loosening of restrictions.  Our son is stuck in Canada so we will not get to see him this Summer.  Thank goodness for Messenger and Facetime.

The Board met in June and decided to postpone the 2021 Festival of Quilts until 2022.  So, you now have more time to create your masterpieces and have them ready for the 2022 show.  Nathlia Holtz is still looking for a co-chair and committee chairs. So please considering volunteering early and help Nathlia make 2022 a success. 

Elections are coming up so if you are interested in volunteering for a Board position, let me or someone on the Board know of your desires. 

I can’t wait to see all of you in person.  But so happy to see the attendance we do get on the zoom guild meetings.  No news on when in person gathering will be allowed, so even if you can’t attend the Zoom Meeting the meeting is available via the ACQColorado.org site.  Just log in as a member and it is there for you to enjoy.

Even after we get back to normal, we will still be doing some form of sewing days via zoom.  I have really enjoyed sewing with friends from my own house.  Our Charity Sew days have been a fun way to get together and make tops and we have had great attendance at the sessions.  There has been a suggestion to have a virtual quilting retreat. The Board and Committee members will start planning that for the fall with fun projects and some great teachers.
