Save time by finding your membership card before a meeting. 

Option 1: Printing Your Card

   

Sign in with your email and password by clicking on the blue silhouette (computer) or arrow (mobile) found at the top right of the website. 

Next click on the blue silhouette again and select “view profile”.

Scroll down the page and the first thing you’ll see under Membership Profile is your personalized membership card.

If you wish to print the card click on “Printable PDF” and print away. 

Option 2: Show Your Card on Your Phone

A. Sign in to the website. You can sign in to your profile from a browser as described above and click on “Image optimized for smartphones”, and then show your card on your phone. You can screenshot the image and store it as photo if you wish. Sorry to say there currently isn’t a way to save it in your digital wallet.

B. Get the Wild Apricot Member App. Or you may find it easier to download the WildApricot App for Members. Sign in once and then it’s easy to display your card from the app whenever you need it. 

  

How is it already February?  When you are a kid, time would sometimes drag on.  However, as I have aged, I feel that I am on a rollercoaster, and it is speeding up each year.  

Seems that every day I’m in the sewing room I find another project to add to my UFO list. Anyone else feel like they multiply when you are not looking.  But such wonderful memories they bring back when I find an old UFO. I did finish quilting a quilt for Angie Noftzinger and hopefully will get a late Christmas gift done by the Feb meeting.  It is on the machine ready to quilt. Yes, I am late, but finished is a virtue and I am aiming for a lot of virtue this year.  

Boy the first meeting of the year was well attended.  I noticed several of you guys brought guests. I hope you bring more friends this year and left the meeting with lots of new ideas.

The first Board meeting was very productive.  You have great slate of Officers and Committee chairs this year.  At the Board meeting we talked about demo night, incorporated comments you gave.  We may have come up with an idea to cut down on the noise.  

I appreciated all that commented via email and attending the Special Festival meeting.  We are combining all of your comments and I hope to present to the guild our discoveries at the Feb Meeting.

A friendly reminder that 2020 Membership Dues are due by the meeting in February in order to continue as a member of ACQ.  There are several ways that you can renew your membership – the easiest is to go to https://acqcolorado.org.  You will need to reset your password using the person icon in the top right of the screen.  Once you reset your password, you will see a button to renew. This will allow for payment via credit card or debit card.

Other ways to renew include bringing a check or $35 cash to the February meeting.  We will have membership forms at a table before you enter.

Another important note: We will NOT be printing membership cards this year.  Your membership card may be accessed through going to https://acqcolorado.org.  Once you are logged in, click on View Profile in the top right corner where you see the person icon.  Once in your profile, you will see your membership card.  You can either print the card, or copy it to your smartphone.

You may also download the WildApricot app on your smartphone.  Login using your email and password for ACQ, and you can access your card that way as well.

New Member Tea

The new member tea is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of April 25^th.  This tea is for all new members to the guild from May 2019 through present.  We will indulge you with delicious tea selections (coffee for non-tea drinkers) and finger foods, while you learn a little more about the Guild, committees and ways that you can get involved.

As ACQ is a volunteer organization, the only way we can run successfully is through your help.  This year we are incentivizing you to volunteer and sign-up for these opportunities through the webpage.  This could include bringing treats for the guild meeting, helping to transport our speakers to the meetings and classes, volunteering to help with show and tell at guild meetings, and finishing projects for charity quilts.  If you volunteer 10 times throughout the year, you will receive an ACQ pin to proudly wear at all ACQ events (and all other times as you so choose). 

For example: the easiest way to sign up for hospitality is to access the calendar (ACQ Calendar), click on the guild meeting, and you will see the hospitality sign up.  You will need to be signed into your account for your name to be added to the list correctly. 

February 2020 Update

I thoroughly enjoyed Demo night and went straight home to make 9 patches. Yes! I changed my needle and thread. If anyone has some extra 9 patches to share, Charitable Quilts with gladly take them. 

Our year is off to a great start with a number of people emailing questions about our committee. 

Some answers are as follows:

Yes! We provide quilts for children and adults in hospitals.

Yes! We accept donations of fabric, quilt tops and blocks.

Yes! We have quilts in varying stages of completion for you to choose how you participate in this worthy cause. We have quilt kits to sew, tops to quilt and bind. 

At our next meeting, please stop by the table to ask more questions and share your ideas.

Masquerade on the 8th Planet by Gerald Dunbar

On Friday, January 24, 2020, my mother and I had the pleasure of attending the opening reception for the "Men Who Quilt" exhibit at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum.  ACQ and Quilters DENver member, Jerry Dunbar, has a quilt in the exhibit.  It is a wonderful example of hand quilting and original design.  There are several quilts that will catch your eye including a block quilt mounted on the wall; a quilt that looks like a woven blanket; and 2 young/old portraits in log cabin that you have to stand way back from to see the images.

The exhibit also includes a separate gallery of David Taylor applique quilts.  There were several I had seen before but there were also several new quilts in the display.  Most are on loan from private collections and this might be the only time you get to see them up close.  I have always admired David's techniques and stylized quilting.

We’ve had multiple inquiries about what our quilt guild can do to help and have three recommendations with upcoming deadlines.

Make a Tree Block: The Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild has requested 12.5” tree blocks that they will use to make quilts for Australians who have lost so much along the South coast of New South Wales.

Bring your blocks to the February 13 meeting. 

Guidelines for making a block: 

• Blocks should be a generous 12.5” (they will trim to size when they make the quilt tops) 
• Can be any tree pattern in any technique
• They do have some free tree patterns. Request to join their Facebook group and check the files there for patterns if you wish to use their patterns
• Low-volume (white or pale gray) backgrounds and any colors for trees. What are low-volume fabrics? 
• Use 100% cotton fabric
• If you’d like to see what others are making, search the hashtag #bushfireblocks on Instagram or Facebook 
• If you post photos of what you make please include these hashtags: #bushfireblocks and #acq

Australian Pattern: ACQ member Marianne Jeffrey spoke at our October 2019 meeting and designed our 2020 raffle quilt. Marianne is from Australia and she has created a foundation pieced pattern of Australian animals called Australiana Adventures. She is selling the pattern on her Etsy shop and all profits will be donated to the Red Cross Bush Fire Appeal

Wildlife Pouches--there are multiple organizations promoting these efforts, sometimes with conflicting information, which is understandable given the scale of this disaster. If this is an area that you want to support we recommend you stay in touch with the Colorado Crafting for a Cause Facebook group that has recently organized. They are coordinating efforts both in Australia and locally to help animals and other causes. 

• You can connect directly with them through their Facebook group (request to join). Be sure to read their announcements and events for their latest information. 
  
  
• You may bring any wildlife pouches you’ve made to the ACQ February 13 meeting and ACQ member Judy Tauchen will deliver them to the Colorado Crafting for a Cause group.

Judy, an ACQ member, has crocheted a bird's nest to help Australian animals according to the instructions found at the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild.

At our December quilt guild meeting, this stunning raffle quilt for 2020 was revealed.

Modern Amish was made by the following ACQ members who also participate in the Quilters Denver bee: Jen Dietz, Marianne Jeffrey, Carole Fronk, Amy Petersen, Christian Dietz, Karen Burkenheim, Mary Holt, Jan Rosa, Janet Thornber, Barb Pond, and Herb Anderson. Not pictured: Issac Rios Cabera, Susan Roy, Jerry Dunbar, and Rachel Lambrecht.

This quilt was designed by Marianne Jeffery and custom quilted by Amy Petersen. It is foundation paper pieced with fabric that was hand-dyed by Amy. It finished at 96"×96". This quilt has been appraised at $11,500 by quilt appraiser Cindy Brick.

The winning ticket will be selected at our December 10, 2020 guild meeting at 8:00 pm. You can contact an ACQ quilt member to purchase a ticket or watch for us at quilting community events throughout the year.

We’re pleased to announce the winner was Don McLean. Don has served on the maintenance team at the church where we have held our meetings and quilt shows for years. He bought 6 tickets during the 2019 Festival of Quilts.
