Arapahoe County Quilters

Celebrating the Art of Quiltmaking for 30+ Years

President's Message- July 2022

July 04, 2022 12:30 PM | Lynn Roginski

Taking Some ME Time

The beginning of July is vacation time for our family.  As we get ready to drive cross country, I already have quilt shops that I’d like to visit mapped out in our plans…one of my favorites is in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  And with that, it is important to make sure and take some time for self-care.  Remember, self-care isn’t selfish.  So, while my family is out fishing, I am planning on bringing my travel sewing machine, sitting out by the lake, and working on a few small projects while relaxing.

One of my favorite new gadgets is a fingertip seam ripper by Riley Blake.  This handy little “Jack” is great for traveling because it is small and portable, and perfect to slip into your hand sewing bag.  Keep an eye out - because it may just show up as one of our door prizes or part of the Grand Prize for the UFO challenge.

Speaking of the UFO challenge, we are over halfway through the year - where are you with your UFOs?  I have a few tops completed, but have yet to finish quilting and binding them.  Fingers crossed I get a chance to finish and show at least one by our December meeting.  I know many of you are feverishly working to finish your 10 UFOs.  Remember, if you entered your UFOs in the challenge and show the finished product at the guild meeting show-and-tells, you will receive a ticket in the drawing for the Grand Prize in December.

Don’t forget, our July guild meeting is on Zoom this month.  We will resume in-person in August - but are working with some scheduling challenges so please stay tuned for updates.  There are still spaces available for the upcoming workshops in August, September and beyond.  They are a great way to meet new people and learn new skills.
