Our Story

ACQ is based on three pillars: Educational Opportunities, Charitable Activities, and Fellowship and Friendship.

Educational Opportunities

Educational opportunities come in several forms, including our monthly guild meetings.

  • We are committed to having at least four in-person guild meetings per year and all meetings will be streamed live.

  • We feature national and local speakers who inspire and educate us.

  • Our members inspire us through Show & Tell.

  • We often have workshops that correspond with lectures provided by our speakers.

Charitable Activities

Charitable Activities continue to inspire our members and help our community by making quilts for charities throughout Metro Denver area.

  • In 2022, we donated over 150 quilts to families impacted by the Marshall Fire in northern Colorado.
  • We consistently support community members through quilt donations to Children's Hospital, Claremont Commons (traditional housing for female veterans), and the VOA Family Motel (traditional housing and services for those impacted by homelessness).
  • We are the only guild that supports the Colorado Pregnancy and Newborn Loss Services, providing blankets for families impacted by newborn loss.
  • We host an online auction (usually in the Fall), featuring goods made by our talented members, with proceeds going to support our Charitable Activities.

Fellowship and Friendship

Fellowship and Friendship takes many form in our quilt guild.  In addition to our monthly guild meetings, we have a Quilt Show that occurs every two years (generally).    We also host an annual Virtual Quilt Retreat, community events to bring members and friends together, and Friday Night Sewcials twice a month.

. . . and so much more—all with fun, friendship and creativity at the heart of what we do. Join us!

Our History

In 1987, Diane Heinton and Barb Lister were new to Denver. They missed the large active guilds they had known in other locations. With the encouragement of their small neighborhood quilting group, The Piece Corps, they started planning how to organize a quilt group.

As former teachers, they knew how to plan! Hours were spent developing goals and a direction for this new guild. They advertised an organizational meeting to be held in May 1987 at the Castlewood Library

On May 21, 1987 the first meeting of Arapahoe County Quilters was held. At the June meeting, 35 members paid dues of $10 and the guild was off and running.
