Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We extend a big round of thanks to everyone who contributed, volunteered and/or attended our Books & Bargains Yard Sale and Social.  Your support was amazing and asa result of your support we were able to raise funds for ACQ’s charity activities.

We hope you care enjoying your book purchases.  Or maybe you picked up some of the free magazines that were available.  As you get inspired and complete projects we hope you will share pictures on the ACQ Community Facebook page and during our Show-n-Tell sessions of our monthly program meetings.

In the meantime, happy reading and happy quilting.

Books and Bargains was fun. Thank you to all who brought in quilts, blocks, and tops. I especially enjoy the stories and questions shared. I look forward to seeing ACQ members at the church for the August meeting.

We welcome any and all donations, regardless of what your preferred style and patterns might be.  If you would like guidelines for donations, we are suggesting patriotic themed quilts for the 3rd quarter (July, August, September) and holiday for the 4th quarter (October, November, December).

So far this year ACQ has donated 350 quilts.

              216 Marshall Fire Victims

              15 Children’s Hospital

94 VOA Family Motel (Previously homeless families)

              25 Clermont Commons (Women Veterans)

    We’re Halfway There

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year!  And what a year it has been.  We have had some amazing speakers and workshops from both local and international quilt artists, we have successfully met virtually and in-person, and we have had more participation in charity quilts this year than all of last year combined!  These are definitely things to celebrate.

As we look forward to the second half of this year, we have some great things in store.  We are moving our June meeting to Saturday the 11th, and will have a great line-up of books and bargains for sale, judging for our annual mini challenge, and an opportunity to get together with many of our guild and board members - including some from out of town.  If you would like to help out (and get first dibs on items), please arrive early.  We would be happy to put you to work.

We are also looking forward to getting geared up for next year.  In January, our board made the difficult decision to postpone the Festival of Quilts for another year due to uncertainty with COVID.  This means that you now have officially one year to get your quilts prepared to show at our festival!  We are also busy gathering speakers and workshop opportunities for 2023.  The line-up will be announced in the fall.  We are also planning another virtual retreat - and would welcome any help or recommendations as we start getting prepared.

As our board and committees are completely run by volunteers, we are also looking for those interested in helping us form the future of the guild.  We need people for both short term opportunities - like helping at an event, and long-term opportunities serving on the board or committees.  In an effort to aid in this, we are looking to put together a nominating committee for 2023.  Currently we are in need of a President elect 2023, Vice President, Programs 2024 and Membership 2024.  If you would like to be part of shaping the future of ACQ, consider volunteering for the Nominating committee.  Please contact Jen Dietz or Barb Pond for more information.

ACQ will be meeting in person, at First Plymouth Congregational Church in  Plymouth Hall, on Saturday, June 11 from 9 am until noon.  How exciting we can gather together again!  At our June event, “Books and Bargains”, we will be displaying the 3 in 1 Challenge projects and voting for the winners.

The Challenge participants will bring their wall hangings at 9 am, along with the artistic explanation on a 5” x 7” size paper attached to the bottom of the piece.

From 9:30 am until 11:00 am, voting will be open for members to select their three favorite pieces. First, second and third place winners will be announced around 11:20 am and ribbons will be awarded.  Photos of entries will be posted on the website www.acqcolorado.org after the meeting.

Here are the requirements for the Challenge:

    1. The three fabrics must be used significantly, (so we can recognize them) in the wall hanging.
    2. Maximum size of the wall hanging must be no larger than a 20” x 20” square.
    3. Project must be completed with quilting and binding.
    4. Project MUST include all three fabrics in the composition.  We need to see enough of each fabric so the three fabrics can be easily identified.
    5. A short artistic statement will accompany each piece.

Once again, the guild is planning a Fall Auction to raise funds for our charity projects.  The dates for this year’s auction are Thursday, October 13th – Saturday, October 22, 2022.  The auction will be held online through Auctria, same as last year. This is our main fund-raiser for ACQ.

    How can you help? ---

    1. We need items for the auction---these can be wall hangings, lap quilts, table toppers, runners, place mats, totes, zippered bags, aprons to name a few possibilities. The guild is looking for hand-crafted items.  Holiday items are always a hit with bidders!  I want to give you plenty of time to get something made by September!
    2. We will also need people to collect items at a “Pop-Up” event late August/ early September, people who have photography skills to make photos for the website, and people willing to distribute the goods to the winners at another Pop-Up event after the auction ends.

Help support one of our guild’s primary purposes---charity quilts, including CPNLS, by helping with the fund raiser.  This is the only event we sponsor as a guild to raise funds for batting, thread, backing fabric, and fabrics and lace for the CPNLS blankets.  Please consider a contribution to help the cause.

Contact Barb Pond at vicepresident@acqcolorado.org or text/call at 303-910-2572.  Thanks for your help!
